Nanoprecipitates in Steels
نویسنده
چکیده
The creep strength of ferritic steels can be substantially improved by the incorporation of a high number density of nano-scale dispersoids. Examples for such alloys are the oxide dispersion strengthened steels MA956, MA957, and PM2000. The dispersoids in these steels contain Y and Ti, or Y and Al. They can be as small as a few nanometers in size. Processing is traditionally carried out by mechanical alloying of elemental or pre-alloyed powders mixed with Y2O3 powder. The goal of the present research is to identify alternative ways of producing ultrafine dispersoids. One possible way is internal oxidation, in which reactive elements dissolved in a metallic matrix are selectively oxidized. Internal oxidation experiments were carried out with Fe-Y, Fe-Ti-Y, and Fe-Al-Y precursors. Microstructural analysis showed that dispersoid dimensions as small as 10 nm could be achieved. Atomized Fe-0.25 at% Y powder was internally oxidized and consolidated by hot forging. An increase in the high-temperature creep strength by ~ 20% was observed. Since it is likely that the composition of the precursor alloys is crucial for maximizing the number density and thermal stability of the oxides, experiments allowing the rapid screening of different compositions have been initiated.

G. (2014) Nanocharacterisation of precipitates in austenite high manganese steels with advanced techniques: HRSTEM and DualEELS
To achieve optimal mechanical properties in high manganese steels, the precipitation of nanoprecipitates of vanadium and niobium carbides is under investigation. It is shown that under controlled heat treatments between 850°C and 950°C following hot deformation, few-nanometre precipitates of either carbide can be produced in test steels with suitable contents of vanadium or niobium. The structu...

We discuss flux pinning and nanostructural analyzes of two intermetallic superconductors that exhibit substantial deviations from the usual flux-shear behavior. Kramer plots for a MgB 2 thin film, which contained a substantial fraction of MgO nanoprecipitates, show an additional component that is attributed to core pinning by the precipitates. Also, polycrystalline MgCNi 3 displays a crossover ...
متن کاملAtomic pillar-based nanoprecipitates strengthen AlMgSi alloys.
Atomic-resolution electron microscopy reveals that pillarlike silicon double columns exist in the hardening nanoprecipitates of AlMgSi alloys, which vary in structure and composition. Upon annealing, the Si2 pillars provide the skeleton for the nanoparticles to evolve in composition, structure, and morphology. We show that they begin as tiny nuclei with a composition close to Mg2Si2Al7 and a mi...
متن کاملEvaluation of corrosion behaviour on Mn-Cr austenitic steels using 0.1 M HCl solution
One of the attractive low activation steels is the austenitic Mn-Cr steel from the view point of waste disposal because of few long-lived nuclides. In this paper, three types of Mn-Cr austenitic steels were fabricated by vacuum induction furnace. Then plates with 10 mm thickness were fabricated by hot-rolling. The physical metallurgy of these steels was studied by the corrected Schaeffler diagr...
